MRI Scan

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanning is a medical imaging technique which uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to form detailed pictures of anatomy and the physiological processes of the body. MRI is known for being extremely safe and does not use any radiation.

Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) Scan:

A CMR scan gives us information on the structure and function of your heart and blood vessels including how well they are working. It can be used to look at things such as congenital heart disease, age-related wear and tear of the heart valves, damage to the heart after a heart attack or the amount of healthy heart muscle if you have heart failure. Visualisation of blood vessels (MRI angiography) also provides great insight into the function of cardiovascular health.

General MRI:

General MRI can be performed for several different investigative reasons such as neurological, musculoskeletal and internal organs studies;

  • Neurological studies help diagnose and monitor many diseases and disorders that affect the brain including bleeding, aneurysms, infection, tumours, hormonal disorders, multiple sclerosis or stroke.
  • Musculoskeletal studies assess conditions such as degenerative joint disorders (e.g. arthritis), tears of the menisci, ligaments and tendons, fractures, spinal cord or disc trauma, sports-related injuries and work-related disorders. This is due to MRI’s ability to distinguish between tissues in very fine detail.
  • MRI is often used for detection of infections, tumours or swelling/bleeding in the body as well as for evaluation of organs such as the liver, biliary tract, kidneys or adrenal glands

Our team always ensure you are pre-assessed prior to a MRI scan – if  you have certain implants or ferrous metal (metals that have magnetic properties) in your body, an alternative scan may be recommended.

  • MRI one part scan: £686
  • Cardiac MR Scans start from: £750
