Dr Konstantinos Dimopoulos
Dr Konstantinos Dimopoulos holds a PhD in ACHD (Adult Congenital Heart Disease) and an MSc in modern epidemiology, from Imperial College, London. He completed his training at the University of Padua in Italy, as well in the Netherlands and the UK.
He has been working at the Royal Brompton as a consultant cardiologist specialising in Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) and Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) since 2003, also leading the Complex Congenital Echo service. He has too been acting lead of the Adult Congenital research group for the past seven years.
Dr Dimopoulos’ areas of expertise include complex adult congenital heart disease, valve disease and pulmonary hypertension of all types (idiopathic or associated to other conditions); as well as promoting education and research in areas such as Eisenmenger syndrome.
Since being appointed to the Royal Brompton Hospital, Dr Dimopoulos has been developing the Trust’s ACHD-PH programme, setting up joint services with units in Southampton and Oxford. This network means that patients with ACHD-related PH have access to advanced therapies if needed.
Dr Dimopoulos has produced over 70 papers in prestigious peer-reviewed journals, as well as authoring numerous book chapters in ACHD, pulmonary hypertension and exercise physiology. He is a reviewer for major cardiovascular journals and regularly lectures in national and international centres.
