Dr Dalby received a French postgraduate diploma in interventional cardiology and returned to the UK to complete his training.

Clinical expertise

Dr Miles Dalby specialises in interventional cardiology, including coronary angioplasty and stent placement.

He has expertise in:

  • multivessel angioplasty and stenting
  • catheterisation
  • angioplasty using the radial (wrist) route as well as the standard femoral (leg) route
  • heart failure
  • palpitations
  • cardiac arrhythmias.

Dr Dalby also has a specialist interest in adult structural heart disease and is a member of the percutaneous valve group, which is developing percutaneous strategies to treat acquired valvular lesions at the Trust.

Dr Dalby has helped to set up Harefield Hospital’s international reputation in primary angioplasty for heart attack victims and has presented papers on the service in the UK and internationally.

Research interests

Dr Dalby’s research interests focus on clinical aspects of coronary intervention, including strategies and logistics of primary angioplasty for acute myocardial infarction.

In addition, he conducts research into the structural and functional analysis of intracoronary thrombus during acute myocardial infarction.

He also leads a research group investigating the biology of intracoronary stents, particularly with regard to the possible risks and benefits of ‘drug-eluting stents’ including high-resolution intracoronary imaging with optical coherence tomography.

Dr Dalby has acted as a reviewer for the:

  • International Journal of Cardiology
  • Circulation
  • European Heart Journal.

Dr Dalby teaches medical students at Imperial College London, and postgraduate doctors who want to become members of the Royal College of Physicians.

As a fellow of the European Society of Cardiology, Dr Miles Dalby has presented at their annual conference in Munich. He has also spoken at the first European Interventional Cardiology Fellows course in London.

He discussed aspects of heart attack management at the faculty of the US Transcatheter Therapeutics meeting in Miami, 2012.
