Dr Tarun Mittal
Consultant cardiothoracic radiologist
Dr Tarun Mittal is a consultant cardiothoracic radiologist at Harefield Hospital, who sees private and NHS patients.
He has trained in all cardiac imaging modalities (including vascular imaging) initially for two years at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. This was followed by a one-year post-CCST fellowship in cardiac imaging at the Yorkshire Heart Centre, Leeds.
Since 2001, Dr Mittal has led the development of both cardiac MRI and CT services at Harefield Hospital.
Dr Tarun Mittal has a particular interest in CT and MRI of the heart and the vascular system.
Dr Mittal is involved in various research projects with primary areas involving:
- risk assessment with coronary artery calcification
- imaging of coronary heart disease
- heart failure
- heart and lung transplantation
- ventricular assist devices.
He has recently completed and published a large study evaluating the accuracy of CT coronary angiography in patients with heart transplant compared to catheter angiography.
Dr Mittal teaches and trains both radiologists and cardiologists in cardiac CT and MR from various hospitals within the UK as well as abroad. He is a Royal College of Radiologists tutor in cardiac imaging at Harefield Hospital.
Since 2004, he has organised the annual Harefield cardiac CT course, which is well attended by radiologists, cardiologists, and radiographers from all over the UK and abroad.
