Nestled in the heart of Chelsea and a stone’s throw away from London’s famous King's Road, Royal Brompton Hospital is at the forefront of advancing heart and lung care.

Founded in the 1840s, initially to treat people suffering from tuberculosis, our hospital has a long-standing history of treating adults and children with heart and lung conditions.

We established Europe’s first adult cystic fibrosis clinic in 1964 and our hospital has grown into the largest treatment centre for the condition in Europe.

Also, our adult congenital heart disease unit was the first of its kind in Europe and remains the largest.

Services and facilities

Our services and facilities include:

  • Sir Reginald Wilson Ward – our private inpatients ward with 28 spacious single-occupancy, en-suite rooms

  • five operating theatres, a hybrid theatre, four catheter laboratories and over 2,200 staff

  • a full range of imaging services, including ultrasound, echocardiography, nuclear medicine, CT, cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR), and fluoroscopy

  • non-invasive cardiology monitoring and lung function

  • dedicated high-dependency units and intensive therapy units staffed by our expert medical team 24 –hours a day.

A brand-new imaging centre opened in January 2022 providing the very latest in imaging technology. This includes some of the most advanced MRI scanners, CT, ultrasound, echocardiography, interventional radiology and bronchoscopy all in one building.

This helps to reduce scanning times and improve the overall patient experience.
