We have an international reputation for the treatment of lung disease, the result of over 170 years’ experience. We are also a national and international leader in the treatment of heart conditions, with large research trials leading to significant developments.
RB&HH Specialist Care is the private arm of Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Hospitals.
Our outpatients service for private patients, located at the Old Fire Station building on South Parade, is open from 8am to 9pm on Monday to Thursday, and 8am to 7pm on Friday.
On the private Sir Reginald Wilson Ward, staff care for cardiac surgery patients, thoracic surgery patients, cardiology patients and respiratory patients. There are 29 single-bedded, en-suite rooms.
Patients benefit from the comprehensive catering and cleaning service provided by our Hotel Services team. Located on the ward itself, chefs in our kitchen cook food to order and are able to cater for cultural, religious and other special dietary requirements.
For patients with greater care needs, a state-of-the-art High Dependency Unit (HDU) is located on site at Royal Brompton.
Nursing staff on Sir Reginald Wilson Ward have a broad range of specialised training and experience in cardiothoracic care. Together with our team of translators and international patient coordinators, we can offer reassuring support and meet the needs of our patients.
Supporting the work of the nursing staff are our Resident Medical Officers, who work closely with the nursing team and each patient’s consultant, implementing treatment plans.
Patients on the ward are visited by their consultant every day. Also, ancillary staff, such as physiotherapists and pharmacists, are readily available.
A historic location
Did you know...?
- The hospital was founded in 1841 to treat people suffering from tuberculosis. A young solicitor, Philip Rose, established it as a charitable endeavour in the era before universal free healthcare.
- In its first decades, kind benefactors supported the hospital including the Royal Family and the author Charles Dickens.
- Royal patronage has continued and our main building, the Sydney Wing, was opened in 1991 by Her Majesty The Queen. In the same year, the hospital was granted a Royal Charter.
- Royal Brompton Hospital established Europe’s first adult cystic fibrosis clinic in 1964 and it has grown into the largest treatment centre for the condition in Europe.
