Biography

Dr Carles Bautista attained his medical degree from the University of Barcelona Medical School. He then went on to complete a Residency in paediatrics and paediatric cardiology at the Hospital Sant Joan De Deu, University of Barcelona and then received his master's degree in science clinical research from the University of Barcelona Postgraduate Medical School. 

Dr Bautista has also completed fellowships in cardiology in Stockholm (Sweden), Tokyo (Japan) and London (UK) as well as a PhD in paediatric pathophysiology from the University of Barcelona medical school. 

Clinical expertise

Dr Carles Bautista's main area of interest is the treatment of congenital/acquired heart disease by minimally invasive procedures (cardiac catheterisation). He works as part of a team to provide a clinical service of excellence for children and adults with congenital or acquired heart disease. 

Research interests

Dr Carles Bautista has research interests in:

  • minimally invasive interventional procedures
  • neonatal cardiology including premature and neonatal intervention
  • heart monitoring using internet-connected devices.

Teaching

Dr Carles Bautista is a senior lecturer at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London. He is committed to the education of undergraduates and postgraduates, participating in courses on paediatric and adult cardiology. 

Publications

Dr Carles Bautista has many published works in his area of clinical expertise including:

  • transapical mitral Melody® valve-in-valve implantation in a child
  • percutaneous management of pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum and critical pulmonary stenosis.
