Biography

Professor David Silk was co-convenor of the British Association of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (BAPEN). He was the second chairman for a five-year period and subsequently chairman of the trustees for 3 years. He is currently a member of Faculty (Trustees) of BAPEN

He has been a member of the Advisory Committee of Borderline Substances (ACBS), Department of Health, for 14 years, advising on nutritional products. 

Clinical expertise

Professor David Silk's clinical interests are in clinical nutrition (enteral & parenteral nutrition), general gastroenterology as well as neuro-gastroenterology.

His specialist areas of expertise include:

  • peptic ulcer disease
  • bowel disease including colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease
  • clinical nutrition, specifically disease-related malnutrition, enteral and parenteral nutrition
  • gastrointestinal functional disorders - eg irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • gastrointestinal neuromuscular disorders - eg enteric neuropathy.
