Biography
Professor David Silk was co-convenor of the British Association of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (BAPEN). He was the second chairman for a five-year period and subsequently chairman of the trustees for 3 years. He is currently a member of Faculty (Trustees) of BAPEN
He has been a member of the Advisory Committee of Borderline Substances (ACBS), Department of Health, for 14 years, advising on nutritional products.
Professor David Silk's clinical interests are in clinical nutrition (enteral & parenteral nutrition), general gastroenterology as well as neuro-gastroenterology.
His specialist areas of expertise include:
- peptic ulcer disease
- bowel disease including colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease
- clinical nutrition, specifically disease-related malnutrition, enteral and parenteral nutrition
- gastrointestinal functional disorders - eg irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- gastrointestinal neuromuscular disorders - eg enteric neuropathy.
