Biography

Dr Ee Ling Heng graduated from Imperial College London, with an intercalated BSc in Healthcare Management. She was awarded a British Heart Foundation Clinical Research Training Fellowship and completed her PhD investigating ‘improved outcome prediction in tetralogy of fallot’.

Dr Heng completed her specialist training in cardiology with the London Deanery. Following completion of specialty training, she undertook an adult congenital and structural interventional fellowship at Toronto General Hospital, University Health Network, Canada.

Clinical expertise

Dr Ee Ling Heng has clinical expertise encompassing adult congenital heart disease, structural heart disease as well as general cardiology.

Dr Heng has a special interest in structural and ACHD interventional minimally invasive procedures. She is a key member of the ACHD and specialist structural heart team at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals and performs highly complex percutaneous (keyhole) valvular interventions such as MitraClip, TriClip, TAVI, PFO/ASD closures and percutaneous mitral and tricuspid valve replacement. During her time with the team, they have been awarded the first in the world Centre of Excellence for MitraClip, a percutaneous repair for a leaking mitral valve. Dr Heng and the team actively participate in novel therapy trials to expand the portfolio of treatments available for her patient group.

Dr Heng’s areas of expertise include:

  • right heart catheterisation
  • coronary angiography
  • mitral valve disease and intervention
  • mitraClip/PASCAL (MV TEER)
  • transcatheter mitral valve replacement
  • triClip/PASCAL (TV TEER)
  • transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement
  • PFO closure
  • ASD closure
  • adult congenital heart disease
  • other ACHD interventional procedures.

Research Interests

Dr Ee Ling Heng’s PhD research involved the development of a novel cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) technique for the assessment of interstitial fibrosis for the right ventricle, as well as examining CMR and genomic predictors of outcome in patients with repaired tetralogy of fallot.

She serves as an associate editor for the International Journal of Cardiology Congenital Heart Disease and reviewer for several peer-reviewed cardiology journals.

Publications

Dr Ee Ling Heng has multiple peer-reviewed publications in journals including Circulation, Heart and International Journal of Cardiology. She has authored multiple book chapters, including in the Oxford Handbook of Cardiology

Teaching

Dr Ee Ling Heng regularly contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. She has been part of the faculty for numerous courses including Mitraclip Centre of Excellence sessions, RBH percutaneous ASD closure course and Multimodality imaging in ACHD.
