Biography
Dr Julian Collinson is a consultant cardiologist at Royal Brompton Hospital, where he treats private patients.
He studied medicine at King's College London and graduated in 1992. He then completed his general training in Manchester.
Following this, Dr Collinson specialised his training in cardiology at the Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust. In 2000, he was awarded his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Imperial College London for his medical research into the epidemiology and management of acute coronary syndromes.
Dr Collinson also works as a consultant cardiologist at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. At Royal Brompton Hospital, he is the clinical director for medical specialities. Previously he was the clinical lead for cardiology.
Dr Julian Collinson has clinical expertise in a number of aspects of cardiology, including:
- interventional cardiology - angioplasty and stent insertion
- implantation of pacemakers, including biventricular devices
- defibrillators in the treatment of heart failure and sudden death syndrome
- angina and cardiac risk factors
- valvular heart disease
- echocardiography.
Research interests
Dr Julian Collinson's main areas of research are in the management of acute coronary syndromes, heart failure and valvular disease.
Publications
Dr Julian Collinson has published peer-reviewed journals on his research subjects.
In particular, he has contributed to publications on angina and heart failure.
