Biography

Dr Shruthi Konda is a consultant respiratory physician at the Royal Brompton Hospital. She is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.  

Dr Konda graduated from Imperial College in 2007. She continued with her postgraduate training in respiratory and general medicine within London, working at the Imperial College, St. George’s and the Royal Brompton Hospitals. 

Dr Konda also has a bachelor's degree with honours in management and medical sciences from Imperial College Business School, and a post graduate certificate in medical education under her belt.

Clinical expertise

Dr Shruthi Konda specialises in all adult respiratory medicine and sleep disorders. She is based at the Royal Brompton Hospital, where she has a diverse practice of patients with a variety of respiratory and sleep disorders. 

She has particular expertise in:

  • smoking related lung disease: emphysema and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) 
  • sleep disordered breathing: including snoring, obstructive sleep apnoea and obesity hypoventilation syndrome.
  • the diagnosis and management of respiratory failure
  • the use of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) and non-invasive ventilation (NIV).

Teaching

Alongside her role as a consultant physician, Dr Konda is an MRCP PACES examiner and has hosted examinations herself, on behalf of the Royal College of Physicians. A dedicated educator, Dr Konda has worked as Foundation Training Programme director and as a Royal College of Physicians tutor, overseeing around 130 postgraduate medical trainees at a time.

She is an educational lead for the British Sleep Society and organises national and international courses and conferences. Dr Konda has also been elected onto numerous committees at the Royal College of Physicians and works with colleagues to drive improvements in health and healthcare through advocacy and education. In October 2022, Dr Konda was appointed as the Linacre fellow at the Royal College of Physicians.

Given her considerable clinical and educational experience, Dr Konda is often invited to speak and chair national and international conferences. She is adding to her academic portfolio by authoring book chapters and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
