Biography

Professor Ulrich A Stock is a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon at Royal Brompton & Harefield hospitals.

He graduated as a doctor (MD) following studies at University of Bonn, Germany; University of Marburg, Germany; University of Innsbruck, Austria and University of Zurich, Switzerland. From 1997-2000, Professor Stock was a research fellow at the University of Harvard, working at the Massachusetts General Hospital for Children in Boston, USA.

He underwent his clinical training at the university hospitals in Hamburg, Kiel, Hannover and Jena in Germany. He qualified as a cardiac surgeon in 2002 and as a cardiovascular intensive care specialist in 2006.

Professor Stock attained his doctorate at the University of Bonn and holds a Higher Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Jena and Tuebingen, in Germany.

From 2011-2016, he was based at Goethe University in Frankfurt, where he was deputy director of the department of cardiac, thoracic and thoracic vascular surgery. He lead the heart failure centre where was instrumental in the clinical development of minimally mechanical assist device surgery.

Research interests

Professor Ulrich Stock's scientific interests are focused on aspects of regenerative medicine such as tissue engineering, cryopreservation and ventricular assist devices.

Publications

Professor Ulrich Stock is the author of more than 120 peer-reviewed papers, reviews and editorials, and has contributed a variety of books chapters. He is an international lecturer and has delivered more than 300 presentations in over 20 countries.

Professor Stock serves as a reviewer for more than 17 international journals. He is frequently asked to be an expert reviewer for national and international funding societies in UK (National Heart and Lung Institute, National Blood Authority), Germany, Israel and the European Research Council.

Teaching

Professor Ulrich Stock is an honorary senior lecturer at Imperial College London and the Magdi Yacoub Institute at Harefield Hospital. He is also an associate Professor for Cardiac Surgery at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
