Valve repair or replacement

With over 40 years’ experience in valvular surgery, our cardiac surgeons perform hundreds of valve repair or replacements each year, with excellent success rates.

Our surgeons have particular expertise in both simple and complex repair of the mitral valve. They also have extensive experience in aortic valve repair using the full range of prostheses (mechanical, biological, homografts and autografts).

Heart bypass surgery

Consultants perform the full range of revascularisation procedures to restore blood flow to the heart, including coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), robotically assisted keyhole surgery (EndoAcab) and a hybrid approach using EndoAcab and stenting.

Surgical intervention for heart failure

In addition to Harefield’s renowned transplant work, consultants have recently pioneered the use of ‘artificial hearts’ (left ventricular assist devices, or LVADs) to support failing hearts.
