Trust-led arrhythmia event to double UK learning opportunities

Trust cardiology experts have launched a new scientific event in a bid to provide more high quality educational opportunities for clinicians in the UK.

The inaugural London Arrhythmia Summit (LAS) will be held on 16 March 2018 and brings together a stellar cast of experts from world institutions, to discuss the latest advancements in cardiology and electrophysiology, including guideline changes and important new studies.

Until now, there was only one notable academic conference on arrhythmia held in the UK – October’s Heart Rhythm Congress – so the new Trust-led event will double this provision and mean clinicians will not need to travel abroad to network and share expertise.

The course directors are consultants Dr Tom Wong, Dr Vias Markides, Dr Wajid Hussain and Dr Shouvik Haldar, along with Professor John Camm from St George’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, an expert in atrial fibrillation.

Dr Tom Wong explained: “This is an exciting opportunity for anyone with an interest in heart rhythm to attend a truly high quality educational event with some of the world’s leading clinicians, right on their doorstep.”

Dr Shouvik Haldar added: “The calibre of the speakers who have agreed to come and present is testament to the importance of this Trust, and of London, in the world of arrhythmia management and treatment.

“This won’t be a dull academic conference, we’ve deliberately put together an engaging and thought-provoking programme, with a lot of relevant topics covered succinctly with plenty of opportunity for discussion and debate.”

The full day event will be held at the King’s Fund in Cavendish Square, and is open to anyone with an interest in the topic, including cardiologists, electrophysiologists, physicians, GPs, trainees or those considering specialising in cardiology, and allied health professionals.

The Trust has teamed up with charitable organisation The Arrhythmia Alliance to make the day free to attend for trainees and allied health professionals. The fee for consultants, GPs and industry representatives is £200.
